Why I Talk About Mental Health and Sleep in Motherhood
I’ve opened up about something really close to my heart: why I talk so much about maternal mental health and sleep.
After the birth of my second baby, I cried most nights, convinced I was a terrible mother. The exhaustion magnified every fear and every doubt. As both a mum and a mental health nurse, I know first hand how deeply sleep and mental health are connected - and how dangerous it is that society expects mothers to “bounce back” after birth when our bodies and minds are desperately trying to heal.
💜 In this blog, I talk about:
My own struggles with mental health after birth
Why maternal suicide remains the leading cause of death in the postnatal period
The symptoms of poor maternal mental health
The importance of sleep for both mental and physical recovery
Why we need to stop pressuring mothers to be “fine” when they are anything but
You are not failing. You are not alone. And you deserve care, rest, and support.
